Want to look younger? Unless you are a teenager that is probably a silly question. If you are over 30, the question is a bit more serious.
Desiring a younger look is, for better or
worse, a part of our cultural conditioning.
The explosion of plastic surgery over the
past 15 years speaks to this fact: A deep
desire to turn back the clock on the hands
of Father Time.
Here's 5 ways you can look up to 10 years
younger without resorting to surgery:
1. Resistance Training
You just knew I would start here, right?
For good reason: Weight training (or
resistance training using bodyweight) has
been shown to decrease the aging process
within cells. In some cases, certain
parameters inside the cell that indicate
age literally reverse when someone trains
with weights for as little as six weeks.
Pretty amazing.
By far, without a doubt, weight training
RULES when it comes to looking 10 years
younger. Nothing else comes close.
Let me give you a rather embarrassing
example. I do not mean to toot my own horn,
but I have to admit...this made my week.
I was on a date last week with a lovely
French gal. We met in the gym that day. She
spoke just enough English to make a date
a possibility.
But I could tell she was uncomfortable. I
finally asked why. She said, "Because...
well, I'm older than you."
I said, "No way... you have to be in your
30s... 35 tops."
"39 to be exact," she said.
I then told her I was 45. Her jaw hit the
table as did mine when I heard her reply:
"I thought you said you were 26 in the
gym... and I believed you!"
Dim lighting perhaps? Anyway...
She misunderstood me when I said I "feel"
26 years old to mean that I WAS 26 years
old. Which is true by the way.
That's almost 20 years off too.
I do not think I look 26, but people
routinely guess 10 years younger --
32 to 36 or so.
I owe that largely to weight training....AND....
2. Low-insulin Nutrition
I follow one plan: My own Every Other Day
Diet System. Specifically the "Extreme Plan"
found within the book.
Look 10 Years Younger <--- Low-Insulin Nutrition Plan
This plan retrains your body on how to
utilize insulin, the most powerful hormone
in the body, in the proper way.
Used improperly, insulin ages you and
ends up killing you well before your time.
Used properly, it can boost your muscle
mass, decrease your bodyfat, and add a
kick to your energy levels.
Plus it slows the aging process to have
normal insulin levels.
Most people do not due to a high-carb diet
all the time.
Know when to eat carbs and you can
manage your insulin.
3. Decrease Your Waistline
This goes with 1 and 2, but I wanted to
give you some specifics. Your waistline
should be less than 1/2 your height in
inches. Make sense?
So if you are 70 inches tall, your waist
should be no larger than 35 inches. This is
the maximum -- and by the way, this one
simple calculation is 4 times more
predictable of heart attacks than
cholesterol. Just fyi.
For every inch UNDER this mark, you will
look about a year younger. Of course this
is a guesstimate, but it's a pretty good one.
People's eyes follow a specific pattern
when meeting someone:
1. Waistline;
2. Immediately to the eyes and face;
3. If attracted, to their most desirable
bodypart.
Men sometimes skip 1 and jump ahead to
number 2 if they are "breast men", but I follow
this 1-2-3 pattern to a "T".
About 89% of women do too.
So get that waistline down.
4. Quality Skin Care
My favorite skin care line is called "Sea
Secrets." I absolutely LOVE this stuff.
I've used it for years. Frankly I wish I
sold it, but I do not.
And I take this pretty seriously for a guy.
I do the exfoliation gig 2-3x per week,
daily moisturizer, and so-on. And I'm not
metrosexual. Or... am I?
Who cares. I like my nearly wrinkle-free
face, thank you very much.
5. Dress The Part
Most of the time I'm in my PJs and a baggy
shirt. It's one of the perks of my job. But
when I go out I dress the part. In fact I
really love cool fashion.
Dress to your tastes for sure, but consider
expanding your tastes to "slightly" more
youthful attire. If you are 48 and go out
with glitter all over and leg-hugger jeans,
you are probably overdoing it a tad. But
you can still hint at a youthful fashion
sense with tasteful contemporary shirts,
cool belts, and my personal favorite:
Killer shoes. I'm telling ya... shoes get
the job done. You can put 10 years on your
age by wearing the wrong pair of shoes.
A good ensemble for guys (sorry ladies,
can't speak to you on this one!) would be a
nice black jacket (clean lines) with a
simple vintage T-shirt or button-down
underneath (to tuck or not to tuck? The
better the waistline, the cooler the tucked
shirt looks), great jeans (do not go cheap
with jeans), a sweet belt (think Guess,
Diesel, etc... make a bit of a statement),
and avoid "bling-bling" watches and gold
like they were death incarnate. Silver is
young, and a nice Movado rocks the hell out
of a gawdy Roll-e-dex (my name for the
you-know-what watch) any day of the week.
Oh, and dark socks. Wearing white socks
with jeans and a 'dress' shirt should
warrant the death penalty.
It's worth it to visit a nice store and speak
to their consultants about what would
look best on you.
As far as what to avoid, I recommend the
following fashion nightmares...
-- Low-rider jeans when you have big-ole'
love handles. I don't care if your 18 or
88, this look sucks and just screams to the
world, "I really do not care about me at ALL."
-- Hawaiian shirts. Leave them in Hawaii.
Better yet, burn them.
-- Gold. You know what I mean. Really.
Unless it's a wedding band of course.
Nothing says "Borat" like a gold necklace
with matching bracelet. (Men only)
-- Anything other than Levis that is older
than a few years.
That's my tips for looking 10 years
younger. Try 'em out.
