Calorie Shifting (Calorie Cycling)

Calorie shifting (commonly referred to as calorie cycling) is a weight loss plan that focuses more on patterns of eating rather than specific foods. Here is how it works, in a nutshell:

Calorie shifting accomplishes weight loss by constantly changing your eating routine, so that your body never becomes "used to" any particular food or routine. Typically with many of today's fad diets, you end up shocking your body into a quick weight loss scheme and your body reacts by slowing your metabolism down so that it can store fat (your body does NOT want to lose fat - remember that!).

By constantly changing the foods you eat and the routine in which you eat them, your body is constantly kept guessing, so to speak, as to what is happening. As a result, your metabolism does not slow down, and you are able to burn off the fat with a good diet and regular (not excessive) exercise. This is the core foundation of the diet. Calorie shifting more precisely is the act of changing the kinds of food, the nutrients, and the calories of those foods every few days. Your body becomes accustomed to a certain amount of calories on average each day. By constantly changing this number (along with the nutrients), your metabolism remains in high gear, constantly kept trying to adjust that average each day. Once your body is broken out of the regular 8am breakfast, noon lunch, 5pm dinner cycle with the same average calories each day, and into a less structured time and caloric intake, your metabolism kicks in high gear, burning off calories and ultimately burning off fat.

The end result of this "diet" is that it is not really a diet at all. You are eating healthy foods, though not starving yourself and also not eating the typical high fat foods like on the Atkins Diet. At the same time, you are maintaining a normal workout routine, not a stressful one. You are basically just eating healthy rather than dieting, but because your metabolism is in high gear due to the calorie shift, you'll start to watch the pounds burn off. Calorie shifting allows you to eat healthy, tasty foods, not the dull bland foods you'll find on some of today's popular fad diets. You'll also be happy to know that you're allowed to eat 4 meals a day - so you'll never go to bed hungry like some of the others!!
