It is very important to make sure that you are properly feeding your body if you want it to continue to be healthy.  This is actually where the food pyramid comes into play.  Unfortunately, there are some people who have the wrong idea about how to use the food pyramid in order to eat properly.  This is caused by there being an abundance of misinformation from people who would like to sell you their diet plan.  Of course, there is also some misinformation from other people who you think would know better.

One thing that you will want to do is make sure that you eat several servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day.  Of course, it is also important for you to make sure that you have plenty of protein in your diet as well.  It is for this reason that some people think that the food pyramid is an inadequate way in which to try to maintain good health.  This is because the food pyramid will actually tell you that you should eat a certain amount of meat each day.  However, in reality you really don’t need to do this.  While you are going to need to have some protein so that you will be able to maintain your muscle mass, you can find this very same protein in a variety of different foods, including vegetables.  This is something that you need to understand because most of today’s meat is filled with chemicals that are really bad for your health.  Plus, your supermarket is also allowed to spray your meat so that it will still look fresh even after it has turned brown.

You do need to pay attention to the food pyramid whenever it comes to making sure that you are getting enough fruits and vegetables each day.  The easiest way in which to do this is by having a green smoothie everyday.  This drink may not sound all that appetizing but it is actually very nutritious and very good tasting.  In order to make a green smoothie you will need two types of fruit to blend together with two handfuls of greens, a small amount of water and some ice.  By drinking this you will make sure that you have had all of your greens for the day in a way that is very easy for your body to assimilate.

Some people will also tell you that you need to eat five or six small meals a day so that your metabolism will continue working strong.  There are several ways in which this can actually be beneficial.  One of the greatest benefits is that it will provide your body with the opportunity to digest the food as you are eating it instead of your digestive system continually having to be at work.  Furthermore, by eating several small meals throughout the day your body will become use to the food that you are giving it even though you will be eating a somewhat reduced calorie diet.
